How the Restorative
Process Works
HOW IT WORKS
It seems like magic, while in fact it's rooted in social science
Our unique approach to conflict resolution is different than typical mediation or conflict interventions. Our work is rooted in Social Justice, family systems and Systemic Leadership approaches. We focus on the human relationship/s between the people involved, and the natural human capacity we have for learning, healing and understanding each other.
The Aurum team facilitate structured processes that support both individual expression and group cohesion. The most frequent response we hear from people coming out of a restorative process is, "I wish we would have done this sooner...!" Even people who start out being very hesitant, even reluctant participants, across the board come away deeply grateful and relieved by the process. Below is an outline of how the Restorative Process works, both for individuals and for groups.

Restorative Process for
GROUPS & ORGANIZATIONS
The Restorative Process for Groups leverages the potency of Restorative Justice processes, while building interpersonal connection between group members to foster long-term resilience.
A key to the process is supporting the group to reclaim responsibility for its own culture and norms, and designing new forms of interaction, including: collaboration, navigating disagreement and change, and making decisions together as a community.
The Restorative Process within a group is often more involved than with individuals. We will make recommendations based on the initial assessment.

This process is particularly effective to repair conflict within:
- A Team in Crisis - While it is tempting to "just move on", it is actually far more beneficial to work with a team when there has been a crisis, a team failure or an interpersonal breakdown. When the challenges and fears are addressed using a restorative lens, each individual person is invited back into the circle and the regeneration process is dramatically accelerated.
- A Community - We have worked with intentional communities, churches, and groups of people dedicated to a shared mission, but who have come across significant challenges, including: loss of the spiritual leader, scandal and illegal activity, challenges in facing disagreements and making decisions as a group, generational gaps and misunderstandings, times of change and uncertainty.
The Process for GROUPS & ORGANIZATIONS
We Show Up
We'll show up in person, and stay with you through the process. The initial stages will include key conversations, interviews, assessment and making a plan of action. We'll make recommendations, and collaborate with you to design a progression and processes that meets you and your team where you are.
Restorative Process
At the heart of the Restorative Process are several tried and true methods, designed to facilitate healing and repair. This work is always facilitated, and highly structured, to create safety, honesty and transformative space for speaking, listening, understanding impact, and moving forward. This process is facilitated by at least two highly skilled Aurum Facilitators, with decades of experience dealing with intense emotion, breakdown and conflict.
Create a New Future
After moving through the acute stages of crisis, we'll work with you and your team to design the future, and ensure similar breakdowns do not reoccur. We'll provide training and facilitate the co-creation of a new and more resilient team or relationship.
Restorative Process for INDIVIDUALS
The restorative process can be done between any two people who want to clear the load of historical resentments, frustrations and hurt, and make space for a new chapter in the relationship.
Unlike couples therapy or mediation, the restorative process is a contained, structured process that invites an honest reckoning with the past, without getting stuck in it. While relationship dynamics may be addressed, the focus is on mutual listening, respect and understanding.
The process creates a safe environment for honest conversations, held with compassion and care.

This process is particularly effective to repair conflict between:
- Co-founders or business partners - clarify differences and release old resentments to create a working partnership that amplifies each persons gifts and contribution.
- Co-leaders, colleagues, co-workers - Often breakdowns and disconnections between leaders of an organization ripple out far beyond the individual and create deep rifts and silos within the entire organization. The Restorative Process creates alignment and offers a chance to heal, repair build bridges between the key individuals, which in turn has an exponentially positive impact all around.
- Family-owned Businesses - Running a company with family members poses its own unique challenges. We have seen great success with family members coming together to restore their kinship and find new ways of operating together as a team.
Restorative Process for INDIVIDUALS
Engagement and Preparation
We connect with the participants, conduct welcoming interviews and describe the process. Each person will have some reflection to do ahead of time. We coordinate a comfortable space and time for the process to take place.
Restorative Process
We guide the individuals through a highly structured process that allows for deep sharing and listening, for understanding each others impact, and moving forward. This process is facilitated by highly skilled Aurum Facilitators, with decades of experience dealing with intense emotion, breakdown and conflict.
Create a Designed Alliance
After the Restorative Session has had some time to integrate, we meet again to check in, and work on an intentional designed alliance. Participants create a new way of operating together, create new agreements, and establish ways of communicating more effectively in the future.
